When Life gets hard, Try to remember, The life you complain about is only a dream to some people.
It was 2nd May 2019, I have received a call from Dr Pramila Ma'am at early in the morning. She said, " An old man is staying on a footpath at Kokne Chowk from last week, he is not able to sit, stand and walk. We are providing food and clothes. But, I don't think he will survive for a long in this critical situation." I met him and examined the situation. His name was Subhash Kamble( Name changed) and his age was 75.
I asked him about his background and history, and I was shocked after listening to his story. He said, "I am in a bad phase now But, I am a well-educated person. I have completed a bachelors degree from Ferguson College. I have also worked with Kirloskar Group Of Company. A few years back, my body got paralyzed hence, I am on the bed from the last ten years. My wife was taking care of me but, she expired last month so, nobody is available to take care of me. We were living in a rented room. But, now I am not even capable of giving a rent of the room. So, I am here from a week". I asked him about his children. But, he said, " I don't want to talk about that. I don't have any other information to tell you." And then the tears were rolling down from his eyes. His eyes were telling me the pain of his life. And the pathetic situation of his survival.
Immediately, I visited the Sangvi Police Station, and I narrated all the story which I heard from him. As per the PSI Mr Narode, There is a care centre at Pimple Nilakh named "Madhurbhav" who accepts senior citizens who live on the roadsides.
I visited Madhurbhav to collect all the information about the admission process. Where I got to know they accept only people who come with the police verification and the letter. Again I visited Sangvi police station submitted all the necessary documents, And then by completing all the legal formalities I came back to collect Subhash uncle.
I was trying to call on 108 for government ambulance. But, They were not ready to provide an ambulance. They said, as per the rule we can providing facilities only to the emergency cases. And, We can drop you at Government hospital only. I tried for a private ambulance also but, charges was 2200/- which was very expensive.
Finally, I booked Uber to travel toward the care centre. But there was again a lion in the path as when the driver saw the uncle's shabby attire, the driver denied getting him to enter in the cab. Somehow, I convinced him and, we started travelling to the care centre. In the entire journey, he shared all his childhood to livelihood stories with me.
We reached our destination and completed all the documentation and legal formalities of admission. And we successfully rehabilitated Subhash uncle in "Madhurbhav".
The case was solved. But still, there are so many unanswered questions in my mind.
I admire Dr Pramila Ma'am for her valuable contribution towards society. I would like to appreciate Vinay Sir, who provides food and clothes to Subhash Uncle regularly.
If a well-educated person like him is suffering from this kind of issues, then what about the uneducated people?
What is the fact about his children? What was he trying to hide about his children?
In our India, many people are living on the footpaths. How many of them are Subhash Kamble?
Maybe a few of them might have received shelter. But, what about the others who demise very poorly on the footpath?
