The Last Wish!
The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise.....
A few years ago, When I was a college student, I frequently used to went "Dilasa" Old age home to meet my all dear ones who live there for a long time. "Dilasa" takes care of senior citizens, whose families show no more interest in taking care of them. We may find many of on bed patients around us. But, here are those on bed patients who are refused by their family members.
We had celebrated all festivals together like Diwali, Holi, Rangpanchami Dashera with them. We have also arranged so many activities for entertainment like Music Programs, Birthday celebration, Mehendi programs. We had changed all the negativity with positive vibes for some time with the help of this kind of activities.
Once upon a time, we were planning to arrange my granny's birthday in "Dilasa" care centre. We had a beautifully decorated round-shaped circle filled with red coloured balloons right in the centre of the hall, A silent Music was been played in the background. All senior citizens were enjoying the music, games, and overall celebration. We finished our cake cutting ceremony. And after finishing the program, I started distributing cake to all the on bed patients.
One of an old lady among them hold my hand tightly and said, " My both kidneys got failed and I am in the last stage. Now I am also aware of the situation that only a few days are remaining of my life. So, could you please fulfil my last wish?". I was completely speechless. Not a single word was ready to come from my mouth after listening to her. But a unique force was standing firmly behind me to handle that heart-breaking moment.
I said, " Yes, of course, why not, you just tell me, granny". She said I also want to celebrate my birthday. After hearing this, I was speechless and I also came to know that small thing matter a lot in someone's life which, we can't even imagine as a wish.
This incident was held on 4th Feb and as per her file records her birthday was on 24th Oct. But, as per her situation, It was not possible to wait till 24th Oct.
Within a few days, I arranged a cake ceremony for her. Surprisingly, I visited "Dilasa" with the cake. After looking at that cake, She was on cloud nine, She started clapping and having happy tears in her eyes with a smiling face, She started screaming "Wow.....It's My Birthday.....It's My Birthday....!".
We cut the cake with the birthday music.
I realised, at this stage, We can't change or save her life. But, we can decrease her pain for some time. Throughout my life, I will never forget her innocent face. And I learnt from her to be happy in every situation.
That was a blessing in disguise because after celebrating her birthday, she expired in a month.
She is no more now. But I will always miss her on my birthday.
I appreciate Mr Satish Jagtap and Mrs Ujvala Jagtap who donate their entire life towards the sensitive part of our civilisation. You both are the role model and the real heroes of our society. Hats of for your devotion.
